Batanga - Recipe and History
Updated: Aug 15, 2022
History
The Batanga is a popular drink in Mexico whose fame grew with an advertising campaign by El Tequileño. It was invented by the famed bartender, Don Javier in the old cantina, La Capilla, in the town of Tequila; Jalisco, in either the 1950s or 60s, he couldn't remember himself! But since he spent much of the day cutting limes, he also stirred the Batanga with his lime knife. End your drink preparation honouring the tradition!
An incredibly easy drink to put together, but one that gives a refreshing combination of sweetness, salt and acid, amazing for a warm summer day.
