Turmeric and Cumin Margarita - Recipe

As much as we love summer, the arrival of autumn is always welcome. And to doff our cap to the shortening days and chillier nights. let's raise a glass to the turmeric and cumin margarita!

Inspired by Rachel Gurjar, this recipe will make use of the health properties of turmeric, which you can find below the recipe. It is a warming and peppery twist to the beloved margarita, and would find an excellent match with a salty snack of your choice. Let's crack on!

What will I need?

  • 50 ml Tequila (we used blanco)

  • 25 ml Triple sec

  • Course salt (roughly a teaspoon)

  • Cumin seeds (roughly a teaspoon)

  • Half a teaspoon of ground turmeric

  • 25 ml Fresh lime juice

  • A heaped teaspoon of agave syrup

  • Fresh mint to garnish

How do I make it?

  1. Roughly grind together your salt and cumin in a mortar and pestle. If you are without these instruments, place the salt and cumin in a clean tea towel and indulge in your favourite blunt object. The mix should still be a little chunky.

  2. Swipe a cut slice of lime around the rim of a glass, and use the moisture to rim the glass in the salt. Tip! Feel free to use water if you can't be bothered with cutting a lime.

  3. In a cocktail shaker combine your tequila, triple sec, turmeric, lime juice and agave syrup.

  4. Shake it up!

  5. Serve your margarita in the rimmed glass, garnishing with the fresh mint and a slice of lime.

Why turmeric?

Turmeric has been used for centuries as a medicinal spice, and is chock full of health benefits. Namely these are it's antioxidant, and anti-inflammatory properties, though it has also been shown to make your happier.

With it's mellow, earthy and peppery flavour, and inarguably vibrant colour, turmeric is a spice made to be enjoyed by all. Brightening foods and drinks for many years, we are very happy for it to perk up our margaritas.
